Minimizing Environmental Impact through Top-Down Bridge Construction
Presented by: Elie Homsi, P.E., Senior Vice President of Engineering Services, Flatiron
Original Air Date: Tuesday, April 20, 2010
Duration: 1 hour
In this first entry in the TCM webinar series, hear about a unique new top-down bridge construction method, using an overhead gantry and a rotating lead to drive piles. Elie Homsi was one of the top-rated presenters at last year’s 1st International Conference on Transportation Construction Management ("TCM-1"). A University of Texas at Austin graduate, Elie has over 25 years’ experience in the heavy civil engineering and construction business, specializing in the development of various bridge erection equipment and construction methods.
For this project, Flatiron developed a new patented variation of the top-down span-by-span construction technique to ensure minimal disturbance to the environment by eliminating the need for access trestles and associated equipment.
All webcasts in the TCM webinar series are complimentary with registration.
